Comfort kills the spirit

Many people dream of visiting Africa, and my dream came true. Early August 2014 I made the decision to embark on a journey of self discovery and adventure to Tanzania, Africa. It was time to leave my cosy little set up back home and make do in the real world – after all, Comfort kills the spirit.

As I boarded my flight to Tanzania, I had no idea what I was in for. I had no clue if the clothes I had packed were suitable, if I had brought the right essentials, or if I would cope with the drastic weather difference between Scotland and Africa. I flew with KLM which was a blast – the on board food was tasty, the seats were comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Having such a comfortable journey makes travelling alone a lot less nerve raking by a long shot.

As I arrived in a humid heat at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam I was met by my father and his lovely wife, Agnes. Seeing friendly faces after such a long and tiring journey was just what I needed before calling it a night.

There is a saying among the expatriates here that goes, “You get bitten by Africa, and you either fall in love with her or you hate her.” Within the first few days I fell in absolute love and fascination with her beautiful scenery, culture, and language.

So here I am, writing about the country that stole my heart and sharing her with the world.
I want to use my blog to document my travels, interests, life experiences, and so much more..

So please enjoy,
Peace, A. xo

  1. Sounds like you are having a life changing time over there. Africa is a wonderful place and I would love to go back. Was watching rhod gilbert going up kilimanjaro on the TV and said I would love to go back and do it again. Keep safe out there and hope the mosquitos don’t drive you to mad. ☺
